Elevator Trim

Here are some photographs of the Elevator Trim Tab modifications Innovative Wings implemented on this project.

The original elevator trim tab looked as though it was an after thought.  We thought we could do better...

The bell crank and rod ends are from Nelsons Hobbies. Both the bell crank and the rod ends have ball bearings.

Configuration and layout of the servo and linkage with the lower skin not yet installed. The MAC servo is flush mounted on the top surface of the elevator and can be removed for servicing.

Here the lower skin has been installed.

How we retain the trim tab hinge pin at the inboard end of the elevator.

The MAC servo has a stall load of 50 lbs., so we tested the the linkage by hanging a 50 lbs. load from the trim tab both upright and inverted. The servo and linkage both worked flawlessly.

Calculations show that at 500 mph and 90 degrees of deflection the load on the tab is only 27 lbs.
